Each morning, Piitoayis Family Staff begin our day with smudge to start in a good way. Today, staff went for a walk together and had the opportunity to be kakyosin on the land in support of helping our students to develop this value. We had the opportunity to stop and drum by the river. Thinking about our PFS family!

This month, staff and students began engaging in learning from Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers. We welcomed Alayna Manyguns, Francis Littlelight, and Barb Horsefall into our community of learners. Please click on the links above to see student reflections and examples of learning.
Welcome! This is the space I will be using to document teaching and learning as a part of my IELL (Indigenous Education Learning Leader) work.
We were lucky this week to receive gifts of braided sweetgrass from Moonstone Creations. Iikiinayookaa reminded us this morning to pass the braid around our circle and to put the scent of it into our sense memories. This month our community will centre our work around stories related to tobacco and cedar, two sacred medicines.
We were reminded this morning of the importance of kakyosin (being observant) and we were asked to consider how this might be a part of our every day within our school. How do we attend to and care for what's around us? Kindness is one of the values we are centering our attention on as we start the school year. How do you demonstrate kindness toward those who share our learning environment? Welcome back to school, everyone! It's been such a flurry of activity as we get back into our classrooms and get to know teachers and students. As someone who is new to the building, it's been such . pleasure getting to know my community of learners! This is such a calm, purposeful place and I have enjoyed my first week here!
